Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, spoke out against President Nayib Buke’s mandated bitcoin use for merchants and businesses. He said it was against cryptocurrency “ideals to freedom”.
Buterin made the comment in response to Reddit’s article “Unpopular opinion: El Salvador President Mr. Nayab(Nayib), Bukele shouldn’t be praised Crypto community.” He also called out “Bitcoin Maximalists,” who he believes praised the El Salvadoran president’s decision without criticizing him.
“Additionally, pushing BTC to millions in El Salvador simultaneously with little or no prior education is dangerous and could lead to innocent people being hacked, or even scammed.”
However, President Bukele had previously stated that Bitcoin adoption was not mandatory for citizens of El Salvador.
