Venezuela’s International Airport to Reportedly Accept Bitcoin Payments for Flight Tickets

Simon Bolivar International Airport (also known as Maiquetia) plans to allow customers to buy airline tickets using digital assets. According to a recent report.

Bitcoin could be your ticket to the air!

Local media recently reported that Maiquetia International Airport would soon allow clients to pay for their tickets in Bitcoin, Dash and Petro, a digital asset issued the Venezuelan government. Freddy Borges, the airport’s director, said that Sunacrip, the country’s cryptocurrency watchdog, will coordinate the initiative.

“We will activate a button for payment of cryptocurrency in the airport platforms and commercial activity, in coordination Sunacrip.”

Recent Russian and European tourists have flown into Venezuela’s touristic hotspots. Borges stated that travelers will be able visit more of South America’s nation after the initiative and this would help to boost its economy. It would also raise the international standards at Maiquetia Airport.

“Just like Russian passengers arrived at Margarita, they’ll also be coming to La Guaira through Conviasa. We must make progress in these new economic, technological, and social systems that are accessible.”

Maiquetia International Airport, Venezuela’s largest airport, is also the main gateway to the country. It is located northwest of Caracas and handles international and domestic flights.

Crypto Adoption in Venezuela

The dictatorship nation versus the decentralized nature digital assets. It seems unlikely that these two could be a good match at first, but it is in Venezuela.

Due to the country’s financial woes, including hyperinflation, poverty, and high prices for cryptocurrency, the population has become more open to digital assets and bitcoin. It is not surprising that this Latin American country is a leader in cryptocurrency adoption.

Burger King Venezuela offered customers in Caracas the opportunity to pay their bills using some of the most popular cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum.

A few months later, another well-known restaurant chain, Pizza Hut, allowed clients to pay in digital assets: Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dash, Litecoins, Binance Coin, as well as Binance Coin. All Pizza Hut locations in Caracas and Maracay, Maracaibo and Barquisimeto were able to offer the deal.
