Ubisoft Quartz NFT Initiative Did Only $400 Worth of Sales in 2 Weeks

Ubisoft quartz beta has not been very popular despite all the hype and promotion. The NFT collection has only sold 15 weapons skins and equipment in the first two weeks of its launch. That’s $400 in revenue.

Ubisoft’s NFT Flop

Apex Legends senior character artist Liz Edwards called out Apex Legends’ sales figures on Sunday. Rarible, Objkte and Ubisoft Quartz link to NFT marketplaces. Only fifteen NFTs were sold in each collection. This is less than two sales per day since the launch of the collection earlier in this month.

Edwards reported a total volume of 94.49XTZ, which is less than $400 today.

This collection is linked to Tom Clancy’s “Ghost Recon Breakpoint,” which was released December 9th. NFTs are skins for weapons or gear. Each item has a unique serial number which distinguishes them from other items in their collection.

These serial numbers can be seen in-game but Twitter users pointed out that it’s very difficult to see them during gameplay. Edwards joked that the novelty and value of a “scarce” item are greatly diminished if it can’t be displayed, making them less valuable.

Tezos’ low gas costs make it relatively affordable to produce NFTs. The project’s low traction may mean that it is operating at a loss. This is especially true when you consider marketing costs and fees in the marketplace. Ubisoft accounts have minted over 2000 NFTs.

The Public’s Perception of NFTs

Gamers have been extremely critical of NFTs on Twitter. After a huge community backlash, Discord, a communications platform commonly used by video-game gamers, canceled plans to integrate with Ethereum NFTs.

NFTs are generally viewed as either scams or harmful to the environment. Tezos, with its proof-of stake consensus mechanism that doesn’t use nearly as much energy than its rival chain Ethereum, attempts to address the latter criticism.
