Sunshine Tour, a professional tournament of golf held in Southern and Eastern Africa, has partnered with Luno in order to bring cryptocurrency closer to its participants. The top players in golf will be awarded bitcoin prizes, in addition to fiat currency prizes.
BTC at the Golf Course
The primary cryptocurrency continues to make its way through the sport industry. Sunshine Tour, a prestigious golf championship, is the latest example. The tournament is held in many African countries, including Botswana and Kenya. It will award $31,000 worth bitcoin to the winner.
The second-ranked person will be paid approximately $12,000 in BTC while the third person will be awarded $6,000 of the asset.
Sunshine Tour is partnering with cryptocurrency exchange Luno. The Luno account will be transferred to the winners of the Bitcoin Awards. Marius Reitz, the exchange’s General Manager, stated that his company’s goal was to enable people to have access to a new financial system that is digitally compatible.
He also suggested that crypto could benefit professional golfers with a “very different approach to risk and reward both on and off the course.”
“Their careers are continuously evolving and this aligns perfectly to our vision of putting the power and potential of crypto in everybody’s hands by making crypto safe and easy to store, buy, and learn about it.”
Bitcoin prizes in other sports
Over the years, this leading digital asset has been used to provide financial support in many sports. Bitbns, an Indian crypto trading platform, promised that in 2021 each local Olympic champion would receive $2,700 worth digital assets. Silver medalists were to be awarded $1,250 in crypto and bronze medalists $675. Bitcoin and ether were the cryptocurrencies being used.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is another sport where BTC is very popular. The organization joined forces with CryptoCom last month to offer the “Fan Bonus Of the Night,” which will be given to digital asset athletes.
The first place payout is $30,000, second place $20,000, and third place $10,000. The UFC’s Pay-Per-View channel allows fans to vote and choose which fighter should be on top.
Dana White, President of the championship, described CryptoCom to be the “best partner” that the entity has ever had.
“They are constantly coming up with innovative ideas on how we can connect with our fans. The Fan Bonus of the Night, a new way to engage fans in our events and reward fighters for their bad-ass performances, is an amazing idea.
