Spider-Man NFTs Drove The Second-Biggest One-Day Ticket Sales in AMC’s History, Says CEO

AMC Theatres, the US’s largest chain of movie theatres, recently offered 86,000 non-fungible tokens for early purchasers of the new Spider-Man film. It was a huge success, with AMC selling the second most tickets in a single day.

NFT Offer from MC

The movie theatre chain joined forces with Sony Pictures to offer 86,000 NFTs as a reward to members and retail investors who pre-ordered tickets for “Spider-Man: There’s No Way Home” on December 16.

AMC Theatres released 100 non-fungible tokens. Owners will be notified on December 22 on how to retrieve the collectibles. The company stated that NFTs must not be used after March 1, next year.

AMC also stated that digital collections are eco-friendly because they are built using the WAX blockchain.

“The Spider-Man NFT can be redeemed at a site managed by WAX. It is an energy-efficient and ultra-low-carbon footprint blockchain that will allow you to redeem the NFT.

Adam Aron, the AMC’s chief executive, predicted that digital collectibles would “go fast.”

He was right

Aron tweeted a few days later that 86,000 NFTs had “fully committed” by Monday afternoon. Additionally, the CEO acknowledged that there was a rush to buy tickets for the blockbuster premiere. It was the second-largest single-day move ticket sale in AMC history. The record is still held by “Avengers: Endgame”, which beat “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, by just 1.5%.

Many of you were correct when they suggested NFTs based on movie themes. No Way Home’s second-highest single-day ticket sales ever was due to our Spider-Man NFT. Monday afternoon saw all 86,000 NFTs (one per qualified member) fully committed. pic.twitter.com/GMO6IswMSD

AMC Theatres is an avid advocate for private cryptocurrency, apart from its plunge into the NFT world. It accepted bitcoin this summer for tickets online and concession payments.

It doubled its efforts in digital assets a few weeks later and added Ether, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) to its portfolio. The movie theater chain tried out Dogecoin, a popular memecoin, and conducted a poll to see if the company should accept Shiba Inu (the self-proclaimed DOGE killer).

The results were favorable for SHIB and Aron announced that SHIB’s adoption would take place at the beginning 2022.
