It’s April 1, which is a day that people who have fun and make practical jokes celebrate internationally. We have always written a piece about something whimsical and fun to brighten the mood in previous years. But today it is important to be careful.
In the last year, the industry has seen a lot of changes. With the introduction of non-fungible tokens or NFTs, scammers have found a new market to exploit.
We’ve heard many stories over the past month about people losing their NFTs. Some of these items cost hundreds of thousands of Dollars like the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection.
If history is any indication, scammers will likely take advantage of the current state of affairs and attempt to seduce many people into “surprise sales” or other similar schemes. The official Twitter account of the Bored Ape Yacht Club contains a warning.
Bored Ape Yacht Club Sounds an Alarm
Today, the official Twitter account of BAYC warned their users about a compromised webhook on their Discord server.
STAY SAFE. Don’t mint anything right now from any Discord. Our Discord webhook was briefly compromised. We caught it quickly, but please be aware that we do not conduct any April Fools stealth mints or airdrops. Other Discords are being attacked as well.
Many other Discord servers raised similar concerns. While they weren’t directly hacked, several teams made it clear that they didn’t plan anything for today. They also claimed that any claims to the contrary were bogus.
Discord Captcha Bot is Supposedly Compromise
Many projects with active Discord communities have raised alarms that the official Captcha Bot was compromised.
Many claim that the tool has been hacked. This is a common tool that many people have used.
To be 100% safe, most servers recommend that you delete all authorizations associated to the Captcha Bot.
We urge readers to be cautious, not only in today’s situation but all day. Never trust unreliable sources, especially on Discord. It is highly recommended to disable the DM function so you can only receive DMs by friends.
