NBA’s Sacramento Kings Partners with Ankr to Support The Growth of Blockchain Industry

The Sacramento Kings, a professional NBA team, and Ankr, a blockchain company offering cloud computing services, entered into a multi-year partnership. The engagement will see the creation of educational content on the cryptocurrency and blockchain space by both entities.

The Kings’ New Crypto Endeavor

The National Basketball Association posted the news on their website. The Sacramento Kings and Ankr will host events and create projects to educate sports fans about digital assets. They also plan to hold an annual event at Golden 1 Center, which is the home of the club. It will host students and developers who want to know more about developments in crypto.

Vivek Ranadive, Chairman and Owner of Sacramento Kings, shared his thoughts about the collaboration.

“Sports can be an effective platform to educate and embrace innovations. Ankr is a proud partner of ours. We look forward to bringing together our synergies to advance-thinking initiatives, and providing fans with educational opportunities about crypto economics.

Chandler Song, on his part, praised the willingness of the NBA team’s to look forward at new technologies raising hopes that this initiative would “open many new doors for both fans of sports and the crypto community:

“We have been to the Kings data center for cryptocurrency mining many times and I admire Vivek’s openness to new technologies. We share the same mission to encourage Web 3 technology applications.

Ankr is a decentralized infrastructure provider and software platform. It was founded in 2017 and focuses on Web3 – the third generation internet services for websites, applications. Ankr’s protocol supports more than 50 proof-of work chains.

Crypto Salaries for the Players

For years, the Sacramento Kings, one of the most successful basketball teams in the NBA, has supported crypto. It allowed fans to buy tickets and merchandise with bitcoin in 2014.

In April, Ranadive, chairman of the organization, announced a new step in digital asset adoption. Ranadive stated that employees could choose to receive their salary in bitcoin or the dollar.

“I’m going offer everybody in the Kings organization; it can get them as much of their salaries in bitcoin as they wish, even the players.”

Another NBA team that accepts digital assets payments is the Dallas Mavericks. Mark Cuban’s club allows payments with Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum and Dogecoin.
