Manchester City to Build a Replica of its Stadium in the Metaverse

Manchester City, the reigning champion of the English Premier League, teamed up with Sony to create a virtual replica in the Metaverse of its Etihad Stadium. This virtual soccer arena would be the first to exist in virtual reality if it is successful.

“City” joins the Metaverse

Sports Illustrated reports that Manchester City, a professional British soccer team, is the latest club in the Metaverse space. The tech giant Sony Corporation signed a three year agreement with “City”, as it is known. Although the project is still in its initial stages, experts have already visited the stadium and mapped it digitally to create a virtual replica.

Image analysts will use skeletal tracking technology to transform Manchester City’s home into a major center in the Metaverse.

Officials from the club believe that the project will allow fans to enjoy live games without having to travel to the British capital.

It’s worth noting that around 38 million people are fans of the club worldwide, with less than a million being UK citizens. Nuria Tarre, Chief Marketing and Fan Engagement Officer for the team, commented on the matter.

The whole point of a metaverse is to allow you to watch matches live and be part of the action from different perspectives. You can fill the Eithad stadium with as many people as you like since it is entirely virtual. The classic image of someone sitting on the couch and watching a computer screen is not something I can imagine being a reality in ten or more years.

What is the Rival doing?

Manchester United, Manchester City’s largest soccer rival, has been interacting with the digital asset universe in recent months.

Tezos, a blockchain platform, has signed a $27 million deal for the “Red Devils”. The team will now display Tezos’ logo on its training clothing. The Carrington ground, which is home to the team’s youth academy, won’t bear Tezos’ initials.

Manchester United has already begun advertising the partnership at its club center. Cristiano Ronaldo signed a new contract last summer with England’s most successful club. Many believe that the return of the Portuguese superstar is a catalyst to multimillion-dollar deals like the one with Tezos.
