Governor of Hungary’s Central Bank Calls for Bitcoin Mining and Trading Ban

The Central Bank of Hungary joined a growing number of central banks that believe bitcoin mining and trading should be prohibited. The organization’s Governor stated that cryptocurrencies could be used to facilitate illegal activities, much like most other bashers.

Gyorgy Matolcsy (current Governor of the Hungarian central banking) called for a ban on cryptocurrency use in Hungary. He said that they are used to “illegal activities” and can be used to create financial pyramids. He also mentioned a recent proposal from Russia’s central bank that would also prohibit the use of digital assets. However, he did not mention that they have made another decision and will regulate crypto rather than ban it.

“The EU must act together to prevent the creation of new financial pyramids or financial bubbles.” The statement states that EU citizens and businesses would be permitted to hold cryptocurrencies abroad and that regulators would track their holdings.”
