Another Solo Miner Nets $215K in BTC Using a Mini USB Rig

Many individuals have turned to small, USB-based mining rigs and some have hit the jackpot. Solo mining pools have sprung up to accommodate the growing popularity of these tiny miners.

Tom’s Hardware, a computer hardware outlet claims that one miner solved a block recently using a rig with a hash rate approximately 8.3 TH/s (terahashes/second). This resulted in a reward of more that $215,000 in BTC.

Solo.ckpool.org, which provides anonymous bitcoin mining for everyone at a 2% fee, reported the win for the mini-miner Jan. 24.

Congratulations to another miner with approximately 86TH solving a solo block on https://t.co/UWgBvLkDqc ! There are many more miners on the solo pool now and if there are enough people mining solo, someone will be the lucky one. https://t.co/Hqte2achR4 pic.twitter.com/0ZT635LicD

Mini-Mining Rigs

However, these tiny USB mining rigs can be hard to find. They are rare, but they can be purchased on Amazon and eBay for as little as $100 if you’re lucky.

Tom’s reported that the solo miner was using a rig operating at only tenth its 86 TH/s hashrate. Bitmain’s Antminer S19 Pro+ Hyd, which has a hash rate at 198 TH/s, is a comparison and weighs more than $14,000.

This isn’t the first time that someone has won the Solo CK Pool jackpot. A solo miner who had a 120 TH/s mining rig, struck digital gold on Jan. 11. He added a new block to his reward and earned more than $270,000 in 6.25 BTC.

A 116 TH/s solo miner also found a valid block, and received over $260,000 just a few days later.

Solo CK Pool administrator Dr. Con Kolivas stated that the event was not a sentinel and that there was nothing wrong proof-of work or the Bitcoin network.

My solo mining service does not have a way to solve blocks more quickly. If there are enough miners mining, anyone can solve a block. It doesn’t matter what size miner they are.

CryptoPotato reported earlier this month that Jack Dorsey’s Block, formerly Square, was launching an open Bitcoin mining platform.

Winner of the Ethereum Block Reward

Bitcoin isn’t the only fruit. However, Ethereum mining can still make it a profitable business. A single ETH miner won a jackpot worth 168 ETH last week, which roughly equates to $540,000.

Although the miner was part of a single ETH mining pool that produced around 1.5 TH/s and the individual contributed around 2.25 GH/s on average.
